PISHIN: A suspected militant associated with the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan was eliminated during a fierce shootout with law enforcement agencies in Balochistan’s Pishin district on Wednesday evening, authorities confirmed.
The high-stakes encounter involved a combined force of local police, security personnel, and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).
Ambush Leads to Mountain Pursuit
According to senior police officials, the confrontation began near the Sangar Killi area. The Station House Officer (SHO) of the City Police Station Pishin and his team were returning from a targeted raid in Killi Karbala when their vehicle was ambushed.
Unidentified armed assailants operating on motorcycles opened fire on the police convoy. The security detail immediately returned fire, wounding one of the attackers. Following the initial clash, the suspects retreated into the rugged, mountainous terrain of Killi Sangar.
The Standoff at the Bunker
A swift reinforcement operation was launched as district police and CTD operatives pursued the fleeing gunmen into the hills. The situation escalated when the suspects took up defensive positions inside a hilltop bunker.
An intense, protracted gun battle ensued. During the exchange:
One militant was neutralized inside the fortified position.
Weapons recovered included a Kalashnikov assault rifle with loaded magazines.
Logistical items seized included a Honda motorcycle and a colored copy of a Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC).
Ongoing Security Operations in Pishin
The deceased insurgent was formally identified as a member of the banned TTP network. While the immediate threat was neutralized, law enforcement agencies have not called off the operation.
Current Status: A comprehensive sweep and search operation is actively underway in the mountains of Pishin to track down escaping accomplices and secure the surrounding perimeter.
Contextual Security Concerns
Pishin district and the wider Balochistan province have faced persistent security challenges. Officials noted that the banned TTP-affiliated factions have a history of orchestrating targeted attacks against police checkpoints and security convoys in the region, keeping law enforcement on high alert.
An official investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
