QUETTA: Over 70000 trees were planted in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan under Prime Minister’s green and clean Pakistan program on Sunday. The Prime Minister has launched the mega project worth 20 billion rupees clean and green Pakistan project to tackle with future impacts of climate change in Balochistan, which covers half of the country in terms of area. Environmentalists say Balochistan is prone to all natural disasters including flash-floods, drought, earthquake etc.

Under this program, 4.1 million plants would be raised till June this year, Abdul Jabbar, the Chief Conservator of Forest for Northern Balochistan tells Quetta Voice. Mr. Jabbar along with officials of the Forest Department arranged a mega event of trees plantation in Quetta’s Southern Mianghundi area. Social activists, students, women and people belonging to various walks of life participated in the mega event to make  sure maximum plantation of trees in the province. Zia Khan, a well-known social activist from Quetta participated in the plantation campaign along with his colleagues.

Elsewhere in Balochistan, plantation campaign was launched in Chaman, Pishin and various district headquartes of Balochistan with district and provincial level officers planting trees.

“We can reduce impacts of climate change only through maximum plantation”, Mr. Jabbar mentioned. He said the Prime Minister has already launched 10 billion tree tsunami project across the country to cope with impacts of climate change in the country and improve environmental  conditions.

The Chief Forest Conservator pointed that 1 lakh plantation of trees was scheduled for today February 23rd. However, he said rest of the trees would be planted tomorrow across the province.
