Balochistan calls for 15 days delay in reopening primary schools

QUETTA: Balochistan government has decided to propose 15 days delay in the reopening of primary schools after increasing COVID19 cases. The government would table this proposal in the upcoming meeting of the National Command and Operations (NCOC), Liaquat Shahwani, the Spokesman Balochistan government said.
The federal government has decided to reopen primary schools across the country from September 30th. “We propose delay after rising cases of coronavirus in Balochistan”, Mr. Shahwani’s comments came after the federal minister for education, Shafqat Mehmood announced the reopening of primary schools from September 30th.
Cases tripled since August this year
The Spokesman warned of rising cases of the deadly virus and revealed that cases of COVID19 tripled since August this year. Education institutions in Balochistan have already confirmed 406 cases of the COVID19 since reopening from September 15th. “Spike in cases pose a serious threat”, Mr. Shahwani told the daily Quetta Voice.
Over a dozen government-run schools and three universities including the Balochistan University, Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University, and the Balochistan University of Information Technology and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) closed after reports of coronavirus cases. “We will close every institution reporting more than two cases of COVID19”, Mr. Shahwani said. Government-run schools closed in Quetta, Zhob, Gwadar after students and teachers contracted the deadly virus.
There is a looming threat of coronavirus in Balochistan, Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan said. “All have to be careful about the second wave of COVID19”, Mr. Khan said.
The Balochistan government has made wearing masks compulsory to contain the novel coronavirus. The provincial government has imposed a ban on the entry of people inside government offices without wearing masks. “Without masks, people are not allowed to enter into government offices”, Liaquat Shahwani said.
