QUETTA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) launched an investigation against 459 officers of the Balochistan government for getting financial assistance from Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).

Sources in FIA told Quetta Voice that the beneficiaries include 16 officers of education department in grade 20, 68 officers of education in grade 19, health department’s 15 officers and 395 grade 17 officers of various departments of the province. The above mentioned officers had received financial assistance through BISP in Balochistan.

The FIA has issued notices to all officers who got financial assistance from BISP under the poverty eradication program in the past, the sources said. In first phase, the grade 17 officers have been directed to appear before the inquiry committee, they mentioned. The process of investigation would be expanded later.

It was revealed earlier that thousands of government officers were getting financial assistance from BISP while portraying themselves poor in documents. Government of Pakistan had launched an inquiry that revealed that thousands of officers who were on better posts were also beneficiaries of the BISP.
