Quetta: Narcotics worth Rs. 37 trillion burnt

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) burnt narcotics worth Rs. 37 trillion in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan province. The narcotics include 8.5-ton heroin, 7.9-ton hashish, 12-ton opium 17.9-ton morphine.
The federal minister for ANF, Azam Khan Swati, deputy speaker national assembly, Qasim Suri, and other high-level officials witnessed the drugs burning ceremony held in the Kach Mor area of Quetta. Wine and other chemicals that can be used in narcotics were also burnt during the ceremony. ANF officials present on the occasion said 180-ton narcotics were burnt during the ceremony.
Addressing the narcotics burning ceremony, Azam Swati said drugs smuggling from Afghanistan pose a serious threat to the young generation in Pakistan. “We have to fight this war against narcotics in every street of the country”, Mr. Swati stated.
Security forces laid down their lives in seizing narcotics
ANF personnel, the Frontier Corps personnel have laid down their lives during the battle against narcotics smugglers in Noshki, Chaghi, Killa Abdullah, and other parts of the province. The value of the burnt narcotics estimated in the international market is Rs. 37 trillion, the ANF officials said.
Mr. Swati lamented, “today narcotics have reached universities and colleges and put the lives of students at peril”. He urged upon the political parties, civil society, and media to join their hands against the curse to narcotics in the country. The curse of narcotics has destroyed the lives of a large number of people in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan.
Smugglers using over 60 unfrequented routes at the Pak-Afghan border
Smugglers have been using over 60 unfrequented routes at the Pak-Afghan border to smuggle narcotics into Pakistan, an ANF official said. He requested anonymity. The smugglers have been using the deserts, mountains of Balochistan to smuggle heroin, hashish to European countries via Iran and Turkey.
“Parents have to play their role in the eradication of the narcotics”, Azam Swati said. He said ANF and FC deserve appreciation for seizing such a huge quantity of narcotics in the bordering areas near the Afghan border.
