Scientists across the globe are working day and night on a vaccine, but do not expect it any time soon. The National Institute of Health (NIH), a US organization is trying to develop one but says it will take at least a few months before clinical trails start and more than a year until a vaccine could become available.

Separately, US officials briefed senators the other day on corona virus and said a vaccine was ast least 12 to 18 months away, according to CNN reports.

After the meeting, when reporters asked if we are close to a vaccine, Sen. Roy Blunt said: “We will not have vaccine in the next 12 to 18 months.

Meanwhile, US biotech firm Moderna has shipped an experimental corona virus vaccine to US government researchers just six weeks after it started working on the immunization.

Initial trials of the potential vaccine could begin in April, but the process of testing and approvals would last at least a year.
