Magnitude-7.0 Earthquake jolts Turkey, Greece, 14 killed over 400 Injured

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake strikes off Turkey and Greece on Friday. Turkish Media reports 26 people killed over 400 injured by the disaster in the country. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) also confirmed the earthquake that jolted Turkey and Greece, CNN reported. At least six buildings have been destroyed in the Turkish cities of Izmir, Bornova, and Bayrakli following the tremor, Turkish Interior Minister, Suleyman Soylu said on Twitter.

The quake struck 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) northeast of the town of Néon Karlovásion on the Greek island of Somos, the USGS reported. The quake struck at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometers, making its impact powerfully felt at ground level. The Turkish President Reccep Tayyip Erdogan tweeted: “Get well soon İzmir.”

Earthquake damages 20 buildings in the Turkish city of Izmir

The devastating earthquake has damaged 20 buildings in the Turkish city of Izmir. Turkish media reports people are screening and shouting in the streets in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. So far the Turkish officials have not confirmed any human loss as a result of the earthquake.
