DG fisheries Balochistan arrested as Rs. 1b corruption exposed

QUETTA: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested the serving Director-General Fisheries Balochistan, Munir Ahmed Mosiani, and former secretary fisheries Aftab Baloch over corruption charges. NAB has exposed Rs. 1b corruption scandal in the fisheries department Balochistan on Tuesday.

“Both accused arrested and shifted to the regional headquarter for interrogation”, the Spokesman NAB said in a statement. NAB personnel were conducting a series of inquiries in the fisheries department for the last few months and finally got solid evidence about Rs. 1b corruption.

Accused awarded contracts to irrelevant companies 

The accused had granted contracts to irrelevant companies during the outbreak of the COVID19. They had paid huge amounts on account of boats, machinery, and other equipment, the Spokesman noted. The Balochistan government had taken a number of initiatives to address the grievances of fishermen and promote the sector.

The fisheries department plays an important role in the promotion of the fisheries sector in the coastal belt of Balochistan. In Gwadar, Jewni, Ormara, the jobs of a large number of people are linked with the fisheries sector. However, fishermen have been facing a lot of issues for a long time.

NAB intensifies operations against corrupt elements

NAB Balochistan has intensified raids and operations against the accused involved in corruption cases in the province. These arrests have come a day after the anti-graft bureau filed a reference against the former health minister Rehmat Saleh Baloch and others.

Mr. Baloch served as the health minister of Balochistan for five years during the Pakistan Muslim League (N) government in the province. NAB had also filed a reference against 16 officials in the Pat Feeder corruption case on Monday.
