Hayat Baloch Murder: Court awards death sentence to FC soldier

A court in Balochistan’s Turbat city awarded a death sentence to a Frontier Corps (FC) soldier in the murder of Hayat Baloch on Wednesday. Session Judge Turbat, Rafique Langove awarded the death penalty to the FC soldier Shadi Khan.

The accused had opened fire and killed Hayat Baloch in a field near Turbat on August 13, 2020. The FC man reached the spot in the aftermath of a bomb explosion at Balochi Bazar Absar Turbat. The video of the killing went viral on social media causing countrywide outrage.

The court had reserved the judgment a few days back and announced it on Wedensday morning, Jadeen Dashti, the counsel for Hayat Baloch told Quetta Voice via telephone.

FC had handed over accused to police after the incident 

Soon after the incident, the FC South had handed over the accused to the police for interrogation. Police had lodged FIR against the accused on the application of the victim’s brother Murad Baloch. Turbat city police station had registered FIR against the accused.

The court awarded the death penalty to the accused within a trial that was underway for less than five months, Jadeen Dashti informed.

Zahoor Buledi, Balochistan’s Finance Minister

Balochistan’s Finance Minister, Zahoor Buledi took to social media network Twitter and said, “None influenced police, prosecution, they performed their duty”.

“Courts are independent”, Shahwani reacted 

“Courts are independent”, Liaquat Shahwani, the Spokesman government of Balochistan said. “We had already assured the victims family that justice would be done”, he said.

The then Inspector General Frontier Corps (FC), Lieutenant General Sarfaraz Ali had visited the residence of the young man and assured justice to the family members of the victim.
