Medical seat issue: Balochistan students call on Punjab law minister

LAHORE: A delegation of students from Balochistan called on Punjab Law Minister, Raja Basharat on Tuesday. The students demanded of the minister to restore Balochistan’s medical seats in Punjab’s prestigious medical institutions.
The students complained that students who scored better percentage in the medical test from Balochistan wanted to get admission on open merit seats in King Edward College, Nishtar College, and other institutions. The Punjab Law Minister, Raja Basharat however assured the students that their issue would be addressed on a priority basis.
“We are referred to D.G Khan medical college”, a student complained
“In violation of earlier policy, we are directed to get admission in D.G Khan”, Khohshal Khan, an aspiring student lamented. He said, “we studied day and night to get admission to King Edward College”.
The Balochistan government has also taken up the issue of open merit seats with the Punjab government. “We have written a letter to the Punjab health department about the issue”, Noor ul Haq Baloch, the Balochistan secretary of health told Quetta Voice.
The students also staged a protest demonstration in Lahore to mount pressure on the government to ensure the admission of students. The students came on-road and chanted slogans in support of their demands.

Students protesting against the decrease in the number of seats by PMC
Medical students from Balochistan have also been protesting against a decrease in the number of seats by the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC). Sources in the Balochistan health department said the PMC has decreased Balochistan’s seats from 134 to only 14.
“This is injustice with students of Balochistan”, Mehrab Baloch, a medical student complained. He said the PMC had to increase the number of seats for Balochistan rather than decreasing. “We will protest against this issue”, Mr. Baloch warned.
The Balochistan Assembly had also demanded of the federal government to re-visit the policy and increase the number of medical seats for Balochistan the other day.
