Manan Mandokhail :

Quetta police have arrested a suspect in connection with the rape of a 7-year old minor girl in the city’s Nawan Killi area. “The accused arrested two days after the incident”, a police official told Quetta Voice.

The accused shifted to Zarghoonabad police station for interrogation. So far, the accused identified as Sarfaraz has not confessed to committing the crime, police said. However, the medical report proves that the minor girl was subjected to rape.

The minor girl went missing in the morning

“The minor girl went missing in the morning two days back”, Muhammad Siddique, the uncle of the victim told Quetta Voice. The accused Sarfaraz was presenting sweets to the minor, he said.

The family members launched a search for the recovery of the minor girl when she went missing. “We recovered the girl in the washroom of the accused”, he said. The family soon contacted the police and registered the First Information Report (FIR). The accused was about to leave the area when police quickly responded and ensured the arrest, Muhammad Siddique stated.

The accused was an employee of police in Balochistan’s Pishin district. However, the department had sacked him over drug trafficking five years back, Jamil Kakar, the Station House Officer (SHO) Zarghoonabad said.

“This is barbarism”, Shakeela Naveed Dehwar, the Balochistan National Party (Mengal) legislator lamented during the Balochistan Assembly session. “53 incidents of violence against children reported in 2020”, she informed. She demanded of the government to make sure protection of women and children in the province.

Incidents of violence against women, children are on a constant rise

Incidents of violence against children and women are on a constant rise in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan. The former Chief Justice Balochistan High Court (BHC), Mr. Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail had taken notice of rampant child abuse.

The outgoing CJ had directed the concerned commissioners to file a comprehensive report in this regard. Justice Mandokhail had also directed the subordinate courts to expedite the cases of child abuse on a priority basis.
