QUETTA: Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has sealed an ice cream factory for using substandard ingredients in Quetta’s Chashma Achozai area on Tuesday. The authority has sealed the factory as a part of its crackdown launched against the elements involved in selling and making unhygienic/ unhealthy food items.

“The factory owner was using substandard ingredients while making ice cream and qulfi”, the Director-General BFA, Muhammad Naeem Bazai told Quetta Voice. He informed that the authority has launched a crackdown against the elements playing with the lives of people in the city.

A total of 12 outlets selling and making unhealthy and substandard food items have been sealed, the DG informed. The Ice Cream Factory has been sealed due to the filthy situation in the processing area, use of unhealthy unpacked non-food grade colors in the manufacturing, use of rusty water in the overall ice cream production, presence of a large number of fungus-infected ice sticks, blending of substandard synthetic flavors in the production and non-disclosure of manufacturing and expiration dates on the packaging.

No evidence of milk adulteration was established

The fined locations include 3 general stores, 2 bakeries, 1 food corner, 1 Kulcha factory, 2 juice corners, and 2 meat shops. Moreover, BFA officials had received complaints about milk adulteration and supply in two houses of Jan Muhammad Road, on which Food Safety officials headed by Deputy Director Operations, Nida Kazmi inspected the said two places but no evidence of milk adulteration was established, however, a large quantity of milk and yogurt was found in both the houses, samples of which were sent to the concerned department of Balochistan Food Authority for detailed testing.
