QUETTA: Inspector General of Police Balochistan, Abdul Khaliq Sheikh launched the traffic week to create awareness among the citizens about the traffic rules. Police will not issue any challan rather they will inform the drivers about the traffic rules, the police chief informed.
The Traffic Week will continue from 19 to 25 September. The IG told that the curse of drugs, gun culture, and disorderly traffic are one of the major issues in Quetta city. ” I promise with the citizens that I will not sit down until these problems are resolved”, IG Police Balochistan assured.
Police need the help of the masses to root out these problems from the city. None of the plans can be achieved without the support of citizens. The IG Police Balochistan said that the problems in the way of traffic flow are still as serious as in the previous periods.
For the permanent solution of the long-standing problems of Quetta city, the establishment of traffic engineering bureau, construction of parking plazas, various intersections, installation of traffic signals, widening of narrow roads, transfer of motor vehicles and garages outside urban limits and implementation of building code in the city are mandatory.
IG Police Balochistan further said that during the awareness campaign regarding traffic rules, the traffic officials should inform the citizens, especially the administration of shopping malls, hospitals and various types of vehicles, rickshaw drivers and motorcyclists in the city about the traffic rules. Being completely unaware of the rules creates a sense of responsibility among the citizens, including parking vehicles in designated areas, zebra crossings, respecting pedestrians at traffic signals, double parking and avoid parking on street corners.
He said that the traffic signals will be activated soon, however, after repeated attention from the traffic police, the Balochistan government will restore the traffic signals at different places of Quetta city i.e: China Chowk, Manan Chowk, Science College Chowk, Samingali Zarghun Cross, and T&T Chowk. signals will be repaired and restored soon and also new signals will be installed at Hockey Chowk and Sabzal spiny cross in the near future. The plans to further expand the existing licensing system (licensing mobile vans) are noteworthy. Work is going on for approval of PEMRA and driving school for FM channel.
