QUETTA: Balochistan Education Foundation (BEF) adopted a hut-like school established by a local hero in the Khuzdar district of the province on Sunday. The story of local hero, Farooq Ahmed went viral on BBC Urdu the other day. In the video, the hut housing girls and boys students in the area can be witnessed.
“First we gathered the elders of the area to convince them to the establishment of the school”, Mr. Ahmed said. “In the first phase, we decided to establish a hut”, he said. The students walk from 3 kilometers to 5 kilometers to reach the school in the rugged mountains of Khuzdar, Ahmed informed.
Chief Secretary Balochistan, Abdul Aziz Uqaili had taken notice of the plight of the school. “BEF has adopted a school at Killi Akerro Kabbari in Sub Tehsil Ornach”, a letter issued by the foundation said.
The government has also employed local hero, Mr. Farooq through BEF and adopted the school, Chief Secretary Balochistan’s official Twitter account mentioned.
The enrolment of this hut-like school reached around one hundred. The Prime Minister’s secretariate has also taken notice of the plight of the students studying in this hut-like school in the ornach area of the Khuzdar district.
In Balochistan, government-run schools portray a very bleak picture. Out of around 14000 schools, 6000 thousand schools are operating with one teacher in one room, which contradicts the present government’s claims about education emergency and priority. Similarly, the number of non-functional schools across Balochistan is around 3000.
