A powerful blast near the Musa Check Post Quetta left five people injured. The injured were rushed to the nearby Benazir Shaheed hospital for medical treatment.
The sound of the blast was heard far and wide causing panic in the area. The blast smashed the glass of nearby homes and damaged the wall.
Police and frontier corps personnel reached the spot as an investigation into the incident went underway. The nature of the blast is yet to be known. However, initial investigation suggests the blast seems to be a suicide attack. The outlawed Tehrik e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed the responsibility for the attack.
The bomb went off when Quetta Gladiators were battling against the Peshawar Zalmai at the Nawab Akbar Bugti Stadium amid tight security. Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Quddus Bizenjo strongly condemned the blast and directed the police to submit a report in this regard. In a statement after the blast, Mr. Bizenjo said the perpetrators of the attack would be brough to justice.
Security was tightened in and around Quetta in the aftermath of the blast in the high security zone of the provincial capital.
