Protesters blocked various roads of Quetta, the provincial capital against prolonged and unannounced gas load shedding on Friday. The protesters took to roads and burnt tires to vent their anger against the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).

The residents of Qambrani road blocked the road and strongly criticized the SSGC for its failure to provide a gas supply to the consumers. “We are facing a lot of difficulties during this sacred month of Ramazan ul Mubarak”, Muhammad Hashim, one of the aged protesters said. He said without any prior notice, the SSGC had stopped the gas supply to Qambrani road and other adjoining areas.

Protester chanted slogans against SSGC

The protesters chanted slogans against the SSGC and the provincial government and demanded immediate restoration of gas supply during the holy month of Ramazan ul Mubarak.

The worst traffic jam was observed as a result of the protest staged by the residents of the area against the SSGC officials. Long queues of vehicles were witnessed as a result of the protest.

CM Balochistan takes notice of gas load shedding in Quetta

Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo also took notice of the protest against low and no gas pressure in the city. Babar Yousafzai, the Spokesman for the CM Balochistan said that a message was also conveyed to the SSGC high-ups.

Since it is a federal department, therefore, we can only lodge a protest and ask them to restore the gas supply, Mr. Yousafzai said.

Senior administration officials reached the spot and reopened the road

Senior administration officials reached the main Dr. Nashnas Chowk where the road was blocked. They held successful negotiations with the protesters and they reopened the road for traffic.
