Anwar ul Haq Kakar appointed as caretaker Prime Minister

ISLAMABAD: Senator Anwar ul Haq Kakar, the leader of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) has been appointed as the caretaker prime minister on Saturday. This was agreed in a meeting held between the Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif and the opposition leader, Raja Riaz.

Mr. Kakar belongs to Balochistan and has been an active member of the BAP in the upper house for the last three years. Kakar came into the limelight for the first time after his stormy speeches in the Senate of Pakistan after his election in 2018 on the ticket of BAP.

Kakar remains spoeksman to former CM Nawab Zehri

Anwar Kakar remained the Spokesman for the former Chief Minister of Balochistan, Nawab Sanaullah Zehri.  He contested elections on the ticket of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) from Quetta city back in 2008. However, he lost elections to Maulavi Noor Muhammad (late) of the then Muttahida Majlis e Amal (MMA).

Kakar belongs to a middle-class family in the Kan Mehtarzai area of district Killa Saifullah. He was little known prior to his elections as a member of the Senate of Pakistan. Anwar ul Haq Kakar has a thorough knowledge of Islam and has an effective command of national, regional, and international issues.

Kakar was affiliated with PSF in the early 1990s

In the past, he used to be a member of the Pashtoon Students Federation (PSF) and then left Pakistan and settled in London for a few years. When the late General Musharraf took over power in 1999. Kakar returned to Pakistan and started politics from the platform of the PML Q.

Anwar Kakar was a staunch supporter of the former Chief Minister, Jam Kamal Khan within the BAP against the CM Mir Quddus Bizenjo. Kakar was always at the forefront against Bizenjo and chairman Senate Mir Sadiq Sanjrani and held them responsible for the downfall of the ruling BAP in the country and province.

Kakar got his basic education from Quetta and got master’s degrees in sociology and political science from the University of Balochistan.
