QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti addressed a climate conference panel organized by the Ministry of Climate Change and FDI Pakistan at BUITEMS University. He emphasized the devastating impact of climate change on Balochistan, despite the province’s negligible role in its causes.

During the event, students asked the Chief Minister various questions about climate change and its effects on Balochistan. Responding to their queries, Bugti reiterated that addressing climate change is a top priority for the Balochistan government.

“Balochistan has no role in causing climate change, yet we are among the hardest hit by its consequences,” Bugti remarked. He stressed that the provincial government is working within its limited resources to mitigate the effects of climate change.

He further added that tackling deforestation and environmental degradation is essential, and warned that commercial deforestation will be treated as a criminal offense, with strict action taken against those responsible.

Collaborative Solutions Through Public-Private Partnerships

Bugti also announced plans to propose long-term strategies for combating climate change, emphasizing the importance of public-private partnerships in finding sustainable solutions. He stated that all relevant stakeholders and institutions would be engaged to address the climate crisis effectively.

“It is encouraging to see the youth of Balochistan aware and actively discussing climate change,” Bugti said, noting the importance of student engagement in environmental issues.

The Chief Minister concluded by reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to tackling climate change in collaboration with supporting institutions.
