Quetta: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) in Balochistan has mandated that all interprovincial coaches departing from Quetta operate only during daytime hours. This directive follows heightened security concerns across the province.
RTA Secretary cited “unavoidable circumstances” for discouraging nighttime travel. This decision aligns with precautionary measures adopted after a surge in terrorism incidents.
Meanwhile, a sit-in protest at Unity Chowk has entered its sixth consecutive day, causing severe traffic disruptions. Organized by political leaders and the family of a victim, the protest has left students and office-goers struggling to find alternative routes.
These developments come in the wake of last week’s deadly suicide bombing at the Quetta Railway Station, which killed at least 25 people and injured over 50. The attack targeted the crowded platform as passengers gathered for the departure of the Jafar Express to Peshawar.
According to police, the blast, suspected to be a suicide attack, caused widespread panic and also injured two railway police officers, Head Constables Ghulam Rasool Jamali and Bhoral Khan. SSP Operations Muhammad Baloch confirmed the casualties.
