MASTUNG: Candidates protesting alleged irregularities in the recruitment of contract teachers by the Education Department staged a sit-in on Monday, blocking the Quetta-Karachi National Highway. The demonstration, held outside the Deputy Commissioner’s House, brought traffic to a standstill, affecting hundreds of commuters.

Protesters accused the department of violating merit in the selection process, claiming favoritism and lack of transparency in hiring. “We demand a fair recruitment process based on merit, as this directly impacts the future of education in our region,” stated one protester.

The blockade caused significant delays for travelers, with some stranded for hours. Affected individuals called on authorities to address the protest promptly and restore normalcy on the vital transportation route.

Despite appeals for resolution, the demonstrators pledged to continue their sit-in until their demands are met. The district administration has yet to respond publicly to the situation.

This protest underscores ongoing concerns over transparency and fairness in public sector hiring in Balochistan.
