Pakistan has taken a significant step toward enhancing its internet connectivity by granting Starlink a temporary No Objection Certificate (NOC) to operate in the country, the Ministry of IT announced on Friday.

Starlink, a satellite-based internet service owned by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, is known for its cutting-edge technology, providing internet access through Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. The move is expected to bring a new level of connectivity to Pakistan, especially in remote and underserved areas.

Elon Musk had previously confirmed that Starlink applied for approval to offer its services in Pakistan, and on Friday, a user on X (formerly Twitter) shared that the government had given the green light.

IT Minister Shaza Fatima, in an official statement, said the decision to grant Starlink temporary registration came following directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

“The approval was given with consensus from all security and regulatory bodies,” Fatima stated. “With Starlink’s entry, Pakistan will formally step into the era of satellite-based internet services.”

She emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government’s vision of digital transformation and improved internet infrastructure. “Under the Prime Minister’s leadership, Pakistan is advancing toward digital development, and modern solutions like satellite internet will help bridge connectivity gaps,” she added.

The minister also highlighted that Starlink’s registration resulted from a collaborative effort involving multiple government agencies, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the Cybercrime Agency, and security and space regulatory bodies.

“PTA will now oversee the remaining formalities, including fee payments and licensing procedures,” Fatima noted.

With Starlink’s presence, Pakistan is set to experience improved internet accessibility, paving the way for a more digitally connected future.
