ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a phone call from United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday, amid rising tensions in South Asia following Indian military actions.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Shehbaz strongly condemned recent Indian missile and drone attacks, which he said had resulted in the deaths of 31 civilians, injuries to 57 others, and significant damage to civilian infrastructure. He stressed that these actions were a blatant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and posed a serious threat to regional peace and stability.

The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He underlined the country’s right to self-defence in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

PM Shehbaz also expressed appreciation for former US President Donald Trump’s concern over the deteriorating security situation in the region.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Secretary Rubio said the United States was closely monitoring the developments and remained committed to supporting peace in South Asia. He called for restraint and urged both Pakistan and India to work together to de-escalate tensions through dialogue.
