Qaseem Shah:
Quetta – In a significant development in the high-profile Degari double murder case, a local court in Quetta has rejected the bail plea of tribal leader Sardar Sher Baz Satakzai, while approving the bail request of Gul Bibi, the mother of slain Bano Bibi.
The Additional Sessions Judge-X heard the bail applications on Monday. After reviewing arguments from both sides, the court dismissed Satakzai’s plea, ordering that he remain in custody, while Gul Bibi was granted bail and ordered to be released.
The Serious Crime Investigation Wing had earlier submitted the challan of the Degari case to the court. According to the case details, in Sanjdi Degari, the brother of Bano Bibi allegedly shot and killed his sister along with a young man in the name of so-called “honour” before fleeing the scene. Authorities are still searching for the prime suspect.
The brutal killing of the couple sparked outrage across Quetta and beyond, with politicians, journalists, members of the legal fraternity, and human rights activists flooding social media to condemn the murders and demand the arrest of the main perpetrator still at large.
The case has drawn nationwide attention, with many urging the government to ensure justice is served and to take stronger measures to curb so-called honour killings in Balochistan.
