Monitoring Desk:

Quetta: The Government of Balochistan has announced the suspension of mobile internet and PTCL/NTC wireless services in different parts of the province on September 5, 2025, citing security concerns during processions of 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal.

According to an official notification issued by the Home Department, 3G and 4G cellular services will remain suspended across the entire province from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on September 5. Similarly, PTCL and NTC wireless internet services will be suspended in Quetta, Nushki, Mastung, Kharan, Khuzdar, and Sibi districts during the same hours.

The notification, addressed to the Ministry of Interior, highlighted that the suspension is necessary to maintain law and order and to prevent any untoward incidents during religious gatherings. However, all government numbers and certain exempted white-listed connections will continue to operate.

This is not the first time such measures have been taken. In August 2025, internet services across several regions of Pakistan were suspended for nearly 15 days due to security reasons, drawing criticism from civil society, businesses, and digital rights activists who stressed that frequent blackouts disrupt communication and economic activity.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been directed to ensure compliance with the latest order.
