Transgender community to be given inheritance rights: DG HRs

QUETTA: Director General, Federal Ministry of Human Rights, Muhammad Arshad has said that they are working closely with all institutions to provide eunuchs with other rights including inheritance, employment, and education.

“The transgender community is an oppressed section of the society, for their welfare we need measures. Safety centers are being set up,” the Director-General Ministry of Human Rights said.

Muhammad Arshad has said that the purpose of providing information to police officers regarding the Transgender Act 2018 is to ensure the implementation of guidelines for the protection of the transgender community. He said this while addressing a training workshop on Transgender Persons Act 2018 for police officers in Quetta.

A training workshop on Transgender Persons Act 2018 for police officers was organized by the Federal Ministry of Human Rights, Haqooq e Pakistan and European Union. The workshop was attended by Director General Federal Ministry of Human Rights Muhammad Arshad, Regional Director Danyal Sarwar Khan, Deputy Director Irfan Shabbir, Transgender Expert Reem Sharif and police officers.

During the workshop, Transgender Expert for Federal Ministry of Human Rights Reem Sharif briefed the participants on the Transgender Persons Act. Speaking on the occasion, Director General of the Federal Ministry of Human Rights HR Muhammad Arshad said that providing information to the police officers regarding the Transgender Act 2018 would help in resolving their issues.

He said that NADRA is registering transgender persons but so far 2,000 have been registered. However, citing reports from various institutes, he said that the total number of transgenders is around 50,000. Director-General Muhammad Arshad further said that they are working closely with all the institutions for providing other rights to the transgenders including inheritance rights, employment and education.

“Transgenders are the oppressed class of society for whose welfare we need measures. Safety centers for eunuchs are being set up. The purpose of providing information to police officers regarding Transgender Act 2018 is to ensure implementation of guidelines,” he added.

During the workshop, DG Federal Ministry of Human Rights and Transgender Expert Reem Sharif also answered questions from police officers.

At the end of the workshop, Danyl Sarwar Khan, Regional Director, Federal Ministry of Human Rights, thanked the participants.
