Snowfall Quetta: Over a dozen stranded people rescued in Ziarat

The administration rescued over a dozen stranded drivers on Ziarat-Sanjavi road as Quetta and various parts of Balochistan received heavy snowfall and rain. “Over a dozen drivers rescued in Ziarat district”, Naseer Ahmed Nasar, the Director-General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) told Quetta Voice.

Mr. Nasar informed that rescue workers have also rescued three fishermen in Gwadar. The fishermen were shifted to a safer place in Gwadar, the country’s port city. Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Mastung, Kalat, Kan Mehtarzai received snowfall in the wee hours of Saturday.

Balochistan government launches relief operation

The Balochistan government has launched a relief operation in all snow-affected districts of the province to facilitate the people who are in desperate need of support. “Ziarat-Sanjavi road was temporarily closed because of heavy snowfall”, the DG PDMA stated.

Concerned departments have launched a relief operation at Khojak Pass, Kan Mehtarzai, Ziarat, Lak Pass, and other snow-affected parts of the province. Technical staff and heavy machinery deployed at all important locations to make sure smooth flow of the traffic.

“No road is closed for traffic”, DG PDMA says

“Despite heavy snowfall, no road is closed for traffic this time”, a senior levies officer said. He requested anonymity since he was not authorized to speak to the media. Besides rescue workers and concerned departments, personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC), Levies were also engaged in the relief operation to support the people. The PDMA  has also issued a travel advisory, urging the people to avoid unnecessary travel on the national highways of the province.

In Quetta: The citizens suffered because of low or no gas pressure and hide and seek of the electricity. People on Sariab Road, Kharotabad, Nawan Killi, Marriabad, and other areas of the city faced difficulties because of no or low gas pressure in the freezing temperature.

Tourists from the city thronged towards Hanna Urak and Hanna Lake to enjoy the pleasant weather after the snowfall. The worst traffic jam was also witnessed on the road from Quetta to Karachi.
