Students of medical colleges in Balochistan protest against PMC

Students of medical colleges in Balochistan marched on different roads of Quetta against the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) on Tuesday. Students took out a protest rally from press club Quetta and passed through different roads of the city.
The protesting students staged a sit-in at the main Hockey Chowk linking the city with Governor’s House and Chief Minister’s Secretariat. “PMC should stop its discriminatory approach towards students of Balochistan”, Abdul Baqi, a student from Jhalawan Medical College said.
PMC announces to a re-conduct test of students
PMC has directed the students of three medical colleges including Jhalawan, Loralai, and Turbat to appear in a test. However, the students have refused to do so. Medical students have been protesting against the commission for last more than two months.
“This test is against the rules of PMC”, Abdul Baqi said. He said the major reason behind conducting another test of students was to deprive them of the right to medical education. All male and female students were chanting slogans against the PMC and government.
Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman joins students’ protest
The Chief of Gwadar Right Movement (GRM), Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman also joined the protesters and expressed solidarity with students. “We standby our students”, the Maulana said. He said the people of Balochistan would not let the PMC play with the future of students of the province.
Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo had also assured the protesting students for resolution of their issue. “Government will not allow anyone to ruin the future of students”, Mr. Bizenjo told Quetta Voice a few days back. He said his government would take up the issue with the federal government.
The sit-in caused the suspension of traffic at the main Hockey Chowk. People faced difficulties in reaching their destinations because of the worst traffic jam caused by the protest.
