Students on hunger strike till death against PMC in Balochistan

Syed Muhammad Yaseen:

Students are on hunger strike till death for the last 35-40 hours in a camp before Quetta against Pakistan Medical Commission. The medical students belong to Makran, Jhalawan, and Loralai medical colleges of Balochistan. Three months ago PMC announced a special exam for the registration of students of the three medical colleges of the province. However, the students are not in favor of taking this special exam for the registration process.

The 600 students of three medical colleges of Balochistan were on a sit-in for the last two months for the acceptance of their demands. But after 2 months of sit-in before the Quetta Press Club government of Balochistan failed to meet their demands and take up the matter with PMC. Five medical students went on hunger strike till death for getting themselves registered in Pakistan Medical Commission.

“I cleared my medical entrance test in 2019, got admission in Jhalawan Medical College (JMC), but couldn’t get registration in PMC”, AhsanUllah Kakar, student of MBBS part two told Quetta Voice. I do not why after clearing the first professional exam of MBBS, PMC is not registering me as a medical student, Miss Summaya Baloch of Makran Medical College said.

Balochistan government approaches PMC regarding the issue

Two weeks ago Minister Health, Syed Ehsan Shah, sent a letter to PMC about this issue, and soon the health department will come up with the demands of medical students, representative of the health dept Balochistan told Quetta Voice.

Right now Balochistan govt is waiting for any response from the Pakistan Medical Commission about the registration of 600 MBBS students of the province.
