CM Balochistan takes notice of Chaghi firing, protest

QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo has taken notice of the firing incident in the province’s Chaghi district on Monday. The CM has directed the concerned authorities to submit a report in this regard.

“Investigation is underway and be peaceful and calm”, the CM was quoted in an official handout. Mr. Bizenjo assured the protesters that justice would be done and the killing of the driver would be investigated.

The killing of driver Hameedullah sparked a violent protest in Chaghi outside the security forces camp. Eight people were injured as a result of the firing. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

DC Chaghi Masroor Baloch transferred

CM Balochistan ordered an immediate transfer of deputy commissioner Chaghi, Masroor Baloch. Inam ul Haq, a grade-19 officer was posted as the deputy commissioner Chaghi, a notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) said on Monday.

The angry protesters also established a protest camp and demanded the arrest of personnel involved in the killing of driver Hameedullah. “We have addressed the grievances of the protesters”, Saifullah Khetran, the Commissioner Rakhshan Division said.

The administration held negotiations with protesters to call off their protest. Currently, Muhammad Irfan Khilji, the Assistant Commissioner Chaghi is holding negotiations with protesters, the Commissioner informed. He said all issues would be resolved through negotiations.

A shutter down strike was also observed in Chaghi against the firing incident. All shops and business centers were closed as a result of the strike. Political parties and residents of the area had given a call of a strike to mourn the killing of driver Hameedullah.

Strict security measures were adopted by the administration to maintain a law and order situation during the shutter down strike. Levies personnel were deployed in Chaghi Bazar to maintain the order.
