CHAMAN: Pak-Afghan border Chaman remained closed for the second consecutive day after an armed clash. Security sources said an armed accused opened fire and martyred a frontier corps personnel at the border. Three security personnel were also injured in the attack. They were shifted to Chaman hospital for medical treatment.

Pakistani border guards deployed at the border quickly retaliated and pushed back the Afghan forces. The authorities closed the border at Chaman after the attack from the Afghan side, a security official told Daily Quetta Voice. He requested anonymity since he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Martyred FC personnel was identified as Ehsanullah

The martyred FC personnel was identified as Ehsanullah. The funeral prayer of the FC soldier was offered in Chaman and a large number of people belonging to various walks of life participated in the funeral prayer.

Security was tightened in and around the Friendship gate located between the two countries in the aftermath of the clash.

A flag meeting was also held between the two countries after the incident. The Pakistani authorities demanded of the Afghan government hand over the accused involved in the attack. However, no breakthrough was made during the flag meeting.

“We will keep the border closed”, Deputy Commissioner Chaman, Abdul Hameed Zehri said. He said the administration has decided to review the border security and take steps for further strengthening of the security.

People living on both sides of the border suffered difficulties because of the closure of the border. Long queues of people and vehicles were witnessed on both sides of the border. Pedestrian movement and business activities came to standstill after the clash.

The Afghan side has also beefed up security and deployed additional troops after the incident.
