Quetta: Chief Minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan laid down the foundation stone of first cancer unit in Quetta on Tuesday. The hospital would be completed within next two years and a total of Rs. 1558M would be spent on the project to make sure provision of proper treatment to cancer patients in the province.

Establishment of cancer hospital was a long standing demand of people of Balochistan since the fatal disease has claimed scores of precious human lives as result of no proper treatment. “We started efforts for this project from day one”, the Chief Minister  Jam  Kamal Khan who was also chief guest  during the function told the participants of ceremony. The hospital’s foundation stone was laid down at the sheikh zayad hospital Quetta on the eve of  world cancer day.

Through Balochistan endowment fund, we have treated over 300 patients, the chief minister informed the audience. He said cancer ward in collaboration  with Indus hospital Karachi would also be established.

Jam Kamal Khan however mentioned that poor quality of food was also  one  of the underlying reasons  behind spread of cancer disease in the province. He said food authority was established in Quetta and it was being expanded on divisional level to check the quality of food in the province. “A lot needs to be done in health sector and that cancer unit would be set up as per international standards”, the Chief Minister said. Apart from treatment of cancer, there should be measures to cope with this deadly disease, he cautioned.
