The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Thursday suspended the termination order of the Vice-Chancellor University of Balochistan, Dr. Shafiq ur Rehman. A division bench of the BHC comprising the Chief Justice Mr. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Mr. Justice Muhammad Amir Rana passed this order on a petition filed by the sacked VC.

This order of the BHC has come a few days after the Chancellor/Governor Balochistan, Malik Abdul Wali Kakar removed four VCs of public universities in the province. The court has already suspended the termination notification of the VC Lasbela University, Dr. Dost Muhammad Baloch.

Chancellor has no legal power to remove VC

Akram Shah Advocate, the counsel for the VC pleaded that the Chancellor has no legal power to remove any VC without any investigation and expiry of his/her tenure. Mr. Shah mentioned that the tenure of the VC UoB Dr. Shafiq ur Rehman was scheduled to be expired on February 24, 2024.

However, the Chancellor removed his prior to the expiry of the tenure and without framing or proving any allegations against the VC. The Balochistan Universities Act 2022 clearly says that no VC can be removed without any investigation.

The bench admits the petition for a regular hearing

The bench admitted the petition for regular hearing and issued notices of the Advocate General Balochistan and the Chancellor through the Principal Secretary.

The court adjourned the hearing till April 11. The hearing of Dr. Dost Muhammad Baloch was also fixed on April 11.

Governor removed 4 VCs through a notification

The VCs include Dr. Farooq Ahmed Bazai of the Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), Dr. Shafique ur Rehman, the Vice Chancellor University of Balochistan, Mr. Maqsood, the VC of Loralai University and Dr. Dost Muhammad Baloch, the VC Lasbella Science and Marines University.
