CHAMAN, QUETTA:

At least three children were killed when an earthquake jolted Chaman, Pakistan’s bordering city with Afghanistan. Five of the same family were also injured when their mud-walled house collapsed in Chaman, Babar Yousafzai, the Spokesman to the Chief Minister Balochistan told Daily Quetta Voice via telephone.

He said the earthquake caused the collapse of two mud-walled houses. There was no human loss as a result of the first mud-walled house, whereas, the second house collapsed claiming three lives of children. Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo directed the staff of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to reach the spot and assist the affected people, Babar Yousafzai mentioned.

The earthquake was recorded at 3.5 on the reactor scale. The dead children were identified as 12-year-old Palwasha, 10-year-old Amina, and 8-year-old Sajawal.

Injured shifted to Chaman hospital

The injured by the earthquake were rushed to the district headquarters hospital Chaman for medical treatment. An emergency was declared in the hospital to provide medical treatment to the injured by the earthquake.

Panic prevailed in the area after earthquake

Panic prevailed in the area after the earthquake jolted Chaman and adjoining areas. Levies personnel reached the area and shifted the people to safer places. Mud-walled houses completely collapsed. The survivors were trying to recover their missing things from the debris.

Most parts of Balochistan are located in the earthquake-sensitive zone

Quetta and most parts of Balochistan are located in the earthquake red zone. Chaman town was once razed to the ground more than a century ago by the deadliest earthquake. Similarly, Quetta city was razed to the ground within 30 seconds in the deadliest earthquake of 1935.
