QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court has intensified efforts to recover 10-year-old Muhammad Maswar, who was recently abducted. A three-member bench, led by Chief Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, with Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Malakhail and Justice Muhammad Amir Nawaz Rana, converted a recovery plea into a constitutional petition and issued critical directives to expedite the case.
The bench instructed Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and Deputy Inspector General of Police Quetta to directly supervise the investigation. They were ordered to utilize all technical and human resources, including geo-fencing, to ensure the child’s safe return. Inspector General of Police Balochistan affirmed that no effort would be spared in rescuing the boy.
Addressing broader security concerns, the court criticized delays in the Quetta Safe City Project, which started in 2013. Out of 830 surveillance cameras installed, 630 are reportedly non-functional. The Chief Secretary Balochistan has been directed to convene a meeting on November 18 with relevant stakeholders and submit a detailed progress report on the project. The bench also demanded updates on the establishment of a forensic science laboratory in Quetta to support investigations.
The court has summoned the Project Director of the Safe City Project to appear in the next hearing, ensuring accountability and progress. Judicial oversight will continue to drive the resolution of both the kidnapping case and long-standing security challenges.
