ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday upheld the Balochistan High Court’s verdict, denotifying Ali Madad Jattak as the Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) for PB-45 and ordering re-polling in 15 polling stations of the constituency.

The apex court maintained that the election of Jattak, a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and former Provincial Agriculture Minister, was invalid due to alleged irregularities. The court directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce a new date for the re-election.

The case was brought to the courts by Usman Pirani, a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) candidate, who challenged the results, claiming electoral discrepancies.

Following the Supreme Court’s ruling, Jattak is no longer an MPA, and the PB-45 seat remains vacant until fresh elections are held.

This decision is expected to stir the political dynamics of the constituency, as parties prepare for the upcoming re-election.
