Web Desk: Authorities have strongly refuted viral social media rumours claiming that the CPEC-aligned Sabzal Road is being demolished or abandoned, labelling the reports “completely baseless and misleading”.

Deputy Project Director of the Chief Minister’s Quetta Development Package, Engr. Abid Mahmood, confirmed on Thursday that the project is progressing exactly on schedule. “Asphalt removal on the designated portion has been completed, and piling work for the Sabzal Road–Samingli Road flyover will start tomorrow,” he stated.

The upcoming flyover is a flagship component of Quetta’s new North–South Corridor under the Quetta Development Package and the broader China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework. Once completed, it will dramatically reduce travel time from Sariab Custom to Quetta International Airport from over an hour to just 20 minutes by bypassing the congested Red Zone and Zarghoon Road.

Currently, the city depends on only two heavily overloaded North–South routes, Sariab Road (passing through Zarghoon Road and high-security zones) and the Western Bypass. The new elevated corridor is expected to redistribute traffic and substantially ease chronic congestion on both arteries.

Engr. Abid Mahmood urged citizens to ignore misinformation and rely solely on official updates. “This project will bring long-term transformation to Quetta’s traffic system,” he added.
