Growers to stage a sit-in outside CM Balochistan house on Oct 12

Growers have announced to stage a sit-in outside the Chief Minister Balochistan house on October 12 against unannounced load shedding and non-payment of subsidy. The growers made this decision during an emergency meeting held here the other day. Malik Naseer Shahwani, the central office-bearer of the growers’ action committee and MPA from Balochistan National Party (Mengal) Malik Naseer Shahwani chaired the meeting. Abdul Rehman Bazai, Abdul Jabbar Kakar, and other central leaders of the committee also participated in the meeting.

The growers’ action committee has expressed serious concern over unannounced and long load shedding in remote areas of Balochistan. The growers’ leaders claimed that Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) was providing only a 2 to 4 hours power supply to 622 feeders in Balochistan.

Sit-in to continue till solution of growers problems 

“We will continue sit-in till solution of our problems”, Mr. Shahwani said. He said the growers’ community has suffered huge financial losses as a result of unannounced and long load shedding in the province.

The growers’ leaders demanded of the federal and provincial governments to pay a subsidy to QESCO to restore and make sure power supply to all 622 feeders in the province. “Load shedding severely affected standing crops and orchards in Balochistan”, Abdul Rehman Bazai, another office-bearer said.

Imports of fruits and vegetables affecting growers community in Balochistan 

The growers’ action committee also serious expressed concern about imports of fruits and vegetables from Iran and Afghanistan. These imports have deprived local growers and farmers of income, they growers leaders lamented. The committee demanded of the Balochistan government to encourage and support local growers to export their fruits and vegetables. “This will ensure the promotion of agriculture here”, Abdul Rehman Bazai stated.
