114 Sacked Teachers from Turbat threaten hunger strike till death

QUETTA: 114 sacked teachers from Balochistan’s Turbat city have threatened to observe a hunger strike till death if the government failed to reinstate them. “We will observe hunger strike till death from November 11”, Akbar Ali, one of the sacked teachers told Quetta Voice.
All 114 male and female teachers have established a protest camp outside Quetta Press Club to press the authorities to reinstate them on jobs. The education department had terminated 114 male and female teachers of Balochistan’s Kech district on allegation of being chronic absentees.
“For last one and a half year, we are protesting, but none listens”, Mr. Akbar laments. The government of Balochistan education department has sent a summary to the chief minister to award minor punishment and review the earlier decision of sacking them. “We have proposed to convert their major penalty into minor one”, Sher Khan Bazai, the Secretary Education Balochistan told Quetta Voice.
Despite cold, dry weather, male, female teachers continue to protest
Despite cold and dry weather, all sacked male and female teachers have been protesting outside the Quetta Press Club in support of their demands. “We will continue our struggle despite all odds”, Hafiz Ghulam Muhammad Khosa, a retired teacher accompanying the protesters said.
In the past, the education department had launched a crack-down against chronic absentee teachers across the province. Over 2,000 teachers from various categories terminated by the education department to ensure the presence of teaches in classes.
The government gives top priority to the education department: Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind
The Balochistan government has given priority to the education department and currently 9,433 teachers being recruited to improve the quality of education. “Enrolment of out of school children is our top priority”, Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind, the Balochistan education minister said.
