Dera Bugti polio teams forces walked for 12km to provide drops to children

In Balochistan’s Dera Bugti district polio teams and security forces walked for 12km to provide anti-polio drops to children. Polio teams, personnel of frontier corps put their lives at perils in the rugged mountains of Dera Bugti to reach children under the age of five years.
“The bomb disposal squad personnel also conducted sweeping in mountains during the campaign”, sources in the health department said. The Balochistan health department, UNICEF, and other donor agencies recently conducted an anti-polio campaign in all 33 districts of Balochistan.
During the anti-polio campaign, children under the age of five years in the province provided anti-polio drops. However, for the first time in the history of campaigns, polio teams and security forces reached some inaccessible areas in Dera Bugti, the province’s resource-rich district.
Dera Bugti witnessed bomb explosions, rocketing in the past
Dera Bugti has witnessed bomb explosions, targeted killings, and rocket attacks in the recent past. However, security forces have been able to restore the law and order in the restive district.
Balochistan has so far reported 24 cases of the crippling virus. Most of the cases have been reported from Quetta, Killa Abdullah, and Pishin districts of Balochistan. The officials in the emergency officials term the outbreak of the COVID19 as the underlying reason behind increasing cases of crippling virus. The polio campaign remains suspended for almost four months because of the global pandemic.

Anti-polio campaigns are underway for the last three-decades in Balochistan. However, the government and donor agencies are yet to eradicate the crippling virus despite pumping financial resources and deployment of thousands of volunteers and officials.
