Killa Abdullah reports first polio case of 2021
Health Desk :
Killa Abdullah, Pakistan’s bordering district with Afghanistan reported the first polio case of the year 2021 on Monday. Health department sources said a 28-month old child tested positive for the crippling virus in the district. However, the emergency operation cell is yet to verify the case.
The case reported from union council-1 Killa Abdullah district. The district is considered to be one of the high-risk districts of Balochistan.
“This case seems to be the result of poor vaccination in this union council”, a health official told Quetta Voice. He requested anonymity. The polio workers failed to properly administer polio drops to the children in Killi Sher Shah, union council-1, he claimed.
His claim could not be verified by independent sources.
Killa Abdullah, Pishin and Quetta are high-risk districts
Last year, most of the polio cases were reported from the Killa Abdullah, Pishin, and Quetta districts of Balochistan. Health officials termed refusals on the part of parents as the underlying reason behind increasing cases of the crippling virus.
It may be mentioned here that the authorities claimed to have achieved a 98 percent target during the first anti-polio campaign of 2021. Over 40 million children across Pakistan administered polio drops during the campaign that was underway in all parts of the country.
The anti-polio task force claimed to have achieved 95 percent target
The anti-polio task force also claimed to have achieved a 95 percent target in Balochistan. Anti polio campaigns are underway in Balochistan and other parts of the country for last more than three decades. However, the crippling virus is yet to be eradicated from the country.
Although, there are many unsung heroes battling the crippling virus in Balochistan and other parts of the country. Terrorists have also targeted polio teams in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan to create panic among the polio volunteers and parents.
