Terror acts reduced by 57% in Balochistan during 2020

Balochistan has witnessed a decline in acts of terrorism including targeted killings and bomb explosions during the year 2020. According to Balochistan Home and tribal affairs department, 83 people killed and 205 injured in bomb explosions, hand grenade attacks, and targeted killings during 2020. Most of the incidents happened in the Mekran belt where security forces frequently attacked.

145 people killed 528 injured during 2019

Comparatively, during 2019, the data says 145 people killed and 528 injured across the province. “This is almost 57% decline in the number of terror acts”, an official of the home department told Quetta Voice. He requested anonymity.  During 2020, the officials recorded 127 incidents of terrorism in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan.

The Frontier Corps (FC) and other law enforcement agencies suffered more casualties during 2020. The statistics shared by the officer said 55 FC and other law enforcers lost their lives battling terrorists in Balochistan. One police and a levies official also martyred during 2020.

9 people lost lives in sectarian terror attacks 

However, 9 people lost their lives in sectarian terrorist attacks in Balochistan. “Law and order situation improved following operations conducted by security forces”, Liaquat Shahwani, the Spokesman government of Balochistan said. He said FC, Police, Levies, and other law enforcement agencies embraced martyrdom while battling terrorists in Quetta and other parts of the province.

Security remains tightened in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan during the year 2020. The government however decided to abolish unnecessary check posts on the Quetta-Chaman highway to facilitate the masses. “We proposed abolishing 7 check posts on Quetta-Chaman highway”, Asfandyar Khan Kakar, the Commissioner Quetta Division said.
