QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo on Thursday announced Rs. 2 million compensation for the heirs of flood victims. Flash floods unleashed by torrential rains claimed 70 lives in Quetta and other parts of the province.

The CM made this announcement while addressing a news conference at the CM Secretariat. Federal Minister Agha Hassan Baloch, provincial minister Mir Asad Baloch and others were also present on the occasion.

“The government is aware of the difficulties of floods affectees”, Mr. Bizenjo said. He said the government has provided 5000 tents for floods and torrential rain affectees across Balochistan so far. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has so far provided 300 tents for the flood victims in Balochistan, the CM informed.

Damages assessment underway in Balochistan

The provincial government has ordered the concerned departments to submit a comprehensive report of all damages because of torrential rains in the province. “We are committed to rehabilitating the displaced people”, Mr. Bizenjo said. He informed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided only 300 tents so far.

Although, he informed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a telephonic conversation has assured sending the acting NDMA chief to Balochistan to review the situation developed in the aftermath of heavy rainfall. “Our priority is to reach out to the needy and deserving people”, the Chief Minister said. He said flash floods unleashed by heavy rainfall have severely damaged the agriculture sector of Balochistan. “Our priority is to support and improve the agriculture sector”, he said.

“Perpetrators of terrorist attack be brought to justice”, Bizenjo

When asked about the martyrdom of military lieutenant colonel Laeeq Baig Mirza, he said the perpetrators of the attack would be brought to justice. “This was a coward act and an uninformed officer was abducted and martyred”, Quddus Bizenjo said. He said if someone wants rights the Balochistan Assembly is the best forum. “We can debate issues within the assembly not through the barrel of the gun”, he said.
