Qaseem Shah:
Quetta: The National Institute of Health (NIH) has confirmed the presence of the polio virus in environmental samples collected from 10 districts of Balochistan.
According to NIH, sewerage samples from Quetta, Khuzdar, Lasbela, and Nushki tested positive for the polio virus. Similarly, samples from Mastung, Duki, and Barkhan also confirmed the presence of the virus. Moreover, sewerage samples from Qilla Saifullah, Kech, and Sibi showed similar results.
The NIH reported that the environmental samples were collected in December 2024 for analysis.
Meanwhile, another polio case was reported in Pakistan yesterday, involving a child from Karachi’s East District. The NIH Polio Reference Laboratory confirmed the diagnosis.
It is pertinent to mention that 27 children in Balochistan were affected by the polio virus last year, highlighting the ongoing challenges in eradicating the disease from the region.
