Islamabad – In a high-level response to rising tensions following the Pahalgam incident, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to chair an urgent meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) shortly. The meeting will be attended by the country’s top civil and military leadership to assess India’s recent unilateral and provocative actions.

According to government sources, the committee will deliberate on the internal and external security situation triggered by India’s latest aggressive posturing, including threats to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty. Prime Minister Sharif will consult senior military officials to formulate Pakistan’s official response.

The government has signaled a firm and strategic approach to India’s escalating rhetoric. Sources indicate that a strong and clear response will be finalized during the meeting, aimed at safeguarding Pakistan’s national interests.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that all the issues raised by India will be thoroughly reviewed in the session. “India cannot unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty. It is an international agreement, not just between two countries but involving other stakeholders as well,” he emphasized.

Asif further asserted that Pakistan is fully prepared to respond. “Just as we responded decisively during the Abhinandan incident, we are again in a 100 percent position to give a comprehensive and effective reply,” he stated firmly.

Observers believe that crucial decisions are expected during the NSC meeting, which will define Pakistan’s strategic stance and send a strong message to both regional players and the international community.
