QUETTA — A judicial commission investigating the deadly terrorist attack on the Mangi Dam pumping station in Ziarat district officially began its proceedings on Tuesday.
Led by High Court Justice Muhammad Aamir Nawaz Rana, the inquiry aims to fix responsibility and uncover the facts behind the ambush that left several police officers dead while guarding the crucial water infrastructure project.
Top legal representatives—including the Additional Attorney General, Advocate General Balochistan, and Prosecutor General Balochistan—appeared before the commission during its inaugural session.
Widening the Call for Information
The commission’s secretary submitted an initial report confirming that public notices had already been dispatched to relevant institutions and published in major local newspapers. However, to ensure maximum transparency and encourage any potential witnesses or informed citizens to step forward, Justice Rana instructed officials to run the notices again with wider regional outreach.
Strict Deadlines for Legal Teams
During the session, the bench directed provincial law officers to submit brief written statements along with all official records regarding the probe’s Terms of Reference (TORs). Meanwhile, federal legal council requested additional time to consult higher authorities, which the commission granted.
The court adjourned proceedings until August 24, 2026, when legal teams are expected to present their formal submissions and preliminary findings.
