Police arrest key accused in murder of a journalist in Balochistan’s Barkhan

Police have arrested a key accused nominated in the murder of journalist Anwar Jan Khetran in Balochistan’s Barkhan district on Monday. “Police acted on a tip-off and arrested the accused from Takhra area of Barkhan district”, Syed Saboor Agha, the Superintendent of Police told Quetta Voice.

The accused identified as Adam Khan was nominated in the murder case of journalist Anwar Jan Khetran. Armed accused had opened fire and murdered journalist Anwar Jan Khetran on July 23rd in Balochistan’s Barkhan district.

Accused handed over to Crimes Branch Police Quetta 

The accused has been handed over to levies since he was wanted by levies in the murder case, Mr. Agha said. The deputy commissioner Barkhan and Tehsildar were also informed about the arrest of the accused. Since the case was already transferred to the Crimes Branch Police Quetta as per the directives of the Balochistan High Court (BHC), Syed Saboor Agha said. Therefore, the accused handed over to the Crimes Branch Police for interrogation.

The murder of the journalist had caused countrywide outrage with human rights activists calling for the arrest of the murderers. Political and human rights activists staged protest demonstrations against the murder of Anwar Jan Khetran in various parts of Balochistan. Anwar Jan Khetran was an active journalist highlighting social and political issues relating to Barkhan and surrounding areas.
